Flurb - A Webzine of Astonishing TalesI'd like to draw your attention to the Fall/Winter 2011 edition of Flurb, Rudy Rucker's Webzine of Astonishing Tales, which publishes short stories which are hard to place, both in topic as well as in terms of finding a publication.

I haven't read all the stories yet (I'm pacing myself, given that this is something which lends itself for reading on a mobile device when one is out of sensible reading material whilst on the move), but can comment on the following already:

Bruce Sterling - The Onset of a Paranormal Romance

A brave approach by Bruce, but this didn't work for me, and not just because of the open ending

A. S. Salinas - The Robert Armstrong Syndicated Newspaper Strip

Fun, if not very deep, and rather forgettable. Provided perfectly good travel entertainment.

Rudy Rucker and Paul Di Filippo - Fjaerland

A well written and entertaining Lovecraft et al spoof, apparently with a real location.

The current issue as well as the earlier one (entertainment for many trips!) can be found at the Flurb website.

Iain Sinclair - Radon Daughters

Thomas Pynchon – Gravity’s Rainbow

Somtow Sucharitul – Starship & Haiku

Peter Watts - Blindsight

Tricia Sullivan – Occupy Me

Doris Lessing - Shikasta

Ken MacLeod - Cosmonaut Keep

Andy Weir - The Martian

Charles Stross - The Atrocity Archives

S.P. Somtow – I Wake from a Dream of a Drowned Star City

Aliette de Bodard – In the Vanishers’ Palace

Lavie Tidhar - Central Station

Liz Williams - Empire of Bones

Doris Lessing – The Sirian Experiments

Ian Sales – Adrift on the Sea of Rains
